It’s been a while, but I haven’t forgotten you. I’ve been consumed in writing and revising my manuscript, which hasn’t left me much time for sharing my latest reads and favorite shows.
But I had to pause to share this update: NO ACCIDENT, the documentary I began producing way back in 2017, is making its way into the world tomorrow.
In the aftermath of the deadly Charlottesville, Virginia “Unite the Right” white nationalist rally in 2017, attorneys Robbie Kaplan and Karen Dunn filed a civil lawsuit against 17 white nationalist leaders and organizations on behalf of nine plaintiffs who suffered physical and emotional injuries while peacefully counter-protesting the rally. The lawsuit alleged that the event was not an isolated, spontaneous gathering, but rather a well-planned and coordinated conspiracy to incite racially motivated violence and advance an antisemitic, race-war agenda. And the courtroom drama that ensued put those ideas to the test. In real time and with intimate, behind-the-scenes access to the lawyers, their dedicated team, and six of the brave plaintiffs, NO ACCIDENT chronicles the shocking turns over three years in this seminal trial.
It feels particularly meaningful to release this film against the backdrop of the horrific events unfolding in Israel. Antisemitism is real and persistent — and it underlies “white replacement theory” and so much of neo-Nazi philosophy. Racism, transphobia, xenophobia, homophobia, and anti-Islamic hate are all connected, and antisemitism is an inextricable part of that web. In these dark times, I am privileged to make work that holds a spotlight to the alt-right, their reprehensible views, and their intentionally violent actions.
Please spread the word — and let me know what you think. I’m so eager to hear from you!
